Floorcloth Construction
My floorcloths start, as all floorcloths should, with raw heavyweight canvas. This is then gesso'ed (primed) several times on both sides and hemmed (glued). A base coat is applied of exterior latex paint, followed by the design. I use primarily Benjamin Moore paints, and some Liquitex artists acrylics.

The next step is to seal the floorcloth with several coats of water-based acrylic varnish, sanding between coats as needed. Finally, a coat of clear (bowling alley) paste wax is applied and buffed... this helps protect the floorcloth from dirt.

See our Gallery for the finished product!
